Beyonce, Bruno Mars are big winners at BET Awards 2017

At last year’s edition of the BET Awards, Beyonce won Video of the Year for “Formation,” the first track from her hit album “Lemonade.” At Sunday’s awards, she won Album of the Year for this best-selling disc as well as Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. Among her competition in both races was her sister Solange who had to settle for the Centric Award. Beyonce also picked up the Viewers Choice Award for the video “Sorry” and shared in the directing prize for that as well.

However, it was Bruno Mars who took home Video of the Year for the title track of his #1 album “24 K Magic.” He also claimed Best Male R&B/Pop Artist. The rap trio Migos won Best Group as well as Best Collaboration for their chart-topping “Bad and Boujee” which featured Lil Uzi Vert. Kendrick Lamar and Remy Ma received the two hip hop awards.

These awards were handed out on June 25 at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles and aired live on the BET network. Winners in the 19 competitive categories, which also include achievements in film, television and sports, were determined by BET’s Voting Academy which is comprised of entertainment professionals and fans.
